Where we drive in Catalonia
Catalonia is the region we started with, and our network is densest here: around eighty routes from six pick-up points. Barcelona, Girona and Reus airports, the cruise port, Barcelona Sants station and the city itself.
The coast splits in two, and that decides which airport you want. North of Barcelona lies the Costa Brava: Lloret, Tossa, Blanes, Platja d'Aro, Begur, then Cadaqués and Figueres with the Dalí museum. From Barcelona Airport the drive takes one to two hours, but from Girona it is far shorter — forty minutes to Lloret, about the same to Platja d'Aro. If you are heading for the Costa Brava, look at flights to Girona first.
South of the city the Costa Daurada begins. Sitges sits forty minutes from Barcelona Airport, then come Tarragona with its Roman amphitheatre above the sea, Salou with the PortAventura park, Cambrils and the Ebro delta. Reus Airport is closer for these: a quarter of an hour to Salou against well over an hour from Barcelona. In practice, though, most people still land in Barcelona — Reus handles mainly charters, there are few flights, and in winter the timetable thins out further. We compared both airports for the Costa Daurada.
Catalonia is varied: besides the seaside you can head into the mountains or into antiquity. Montserrat monastery stands on its cliffs an hour from Barcelona, the Penedès and Priorat wine regions are about the same distance, and the Val d'Aran is already in the Pyrenees. Andorra is its own case: almost three hours on the road, in winter a route to the slopes of Grandvalira and Pas de la Casa, in summer to the hiking trails. How to plan a day at Montserrat, what to know before a trip to Andorra.
What makes Catalonia easy is how close everything is: an hour and a half from Barcelona puts you on the coast, in the mountains or in a Roman city. We drive all of these at a fixed price per car — known when you book, unchanged by traffic or night hours. The driver tracks your flight number and moves the pickup without being asked if the plane is late. The first hour of waiting at airports, cruise ports and stations is included, a child seat is free in every vehicle class, and a booking can be cancelled at no cost up to twenty-four hours before.
