Girona Airport to Platja d'Aro: bus, taxi or private transfer

4 min readLet's GO Transfer

Platja d'Aro has roughly two kilometres of sandy shore on a stretch of coast where neighbouring resorts offer only coves wedged between the rocks. The nearest airport is Girona, but there's nothing direct from there.

Without a car it takes a while

The nearest railway station is in Girona itself. That's twenty minutes from the airport - and in the opposite direction from the coast.

There's a bus, but not from the airport. Moventis runs line 41 from Girona bus station through Platja d'Aro to Palafrugell. To use it you first have to get from the airport to the bus station: another bus, plus a wait at the change.

How you travel Time Cost In practice
Transfer ~34 min from €87 per car terminal to hotel door
Bus with a change in Girona 1 hr 40 min and up ~€12 per person few departures, a wait between them
Taxi from the rank about 35 min €95-120 on the meter the fare depends on season and traffic
Rental car about 40 min from €35 a day in summer the central car parks fill up

Bus, taxi and rental prices are valid as of September 2026.

From Barcelona the drive is three times longer

Plenty of travellers fly into Barcelona because more routes go there. The gap is noticeable: from Barcelona Airport to Platja d'Aro it's 118 km, against 32 km from Girona.

If tickets to Girona cost thirty or forty euros more, add up what you pay back in the transfer and in time on the road. From Barcelona you're looking at ~1 hr 27 min, against ~34 min from Girona.

What sort of resort it is

Platja d'Aro started out as a fishing village and is now a resort with a wide promenade, shops along the main street and a proper nightlife. It's loud and busy here, especially in July and August.

Fifteen minutes' walk away is the Port d'Aro marina, with yacht berths and restaurants. To the north the rocky coves begin - Cala Rossa, Cala Pedrosa and on towards Sant Feliu de Guíxols; people head there when the main beach gets too crowded.

The neighbouring resorts are different. Tossa has an old town inside its fortress walls, and Lloret has bars and clubs by the dozen. The beach at Platja d'Aro suits families with children better: the water shelves gently and the sand is fine.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a direct bus from Girona Airport to Platja d'Aro?

No. Moventis line 41 starts at Girona bus station, and you have to reach that from the airport separately.

Is there a train to Platja d'Aro?

There's no railway in the town, and none on this part of the coast either. The nearest station is in Girona, inland from the sea.

Which airport is closer?

Girona. From there it's 32 km, from Barcelona 118 km. In driving time the difference is about double.

How long is the drive from Girona Airport?

~34 min along the C-65 and the C-31. In August you can hit queues on the way into town.

How is Platja d'Aro different from the resorts nearby?

There's a long sandy beach here and a gentle entry into the water. In Tossa and Sant Feliu the shore is rocky, with small coves instead.

What is there besides the beach?

The Port d'Aro marina, a shopping street that runs right through town, a water park and a golf course a few kilometres out. To the north you get the rocky coves, for anyone who wants quieter water.

When is high season here?

July and August: the beach fills up and parking in the centre is hard to find. By June and September the sea is already warm and there are noticeably fewer people.

What if my flight is delayed?

Your driver goes by the actual landing time. The first hour of waiting at the airport is free.
