Booked a transfer from El Prat Airport to our hotel in the Gothic Quarter and it was flawless. The driver was waiting for us at arrivals with a name sign, helped with the luggage, and the price was exactly what the app showed, no surprises, no meter running. After a long flight, it was such a relief to just get in the car and go. Booking took me literally two minutes on the app, no calls, no back-and-forth. Highly recommend ☺️

Sort: rapids, a world championship and the road over the pass

Sort. The town is small, just over two thousand residents. Almost everything that works here is tied to the river: rafting centres, equipment rental, kayak schools. Incidentally, sort is Catalan for 'luck'.

The Noguera Pallaresa and rafting. Plenty of rivers are run in Spain today, but it all started here. Kayakers first came down the Noguera Pallaresa in 1955, and since 1964 the river has hosted an international rally. Sort held the world championship in downriver racing in 2010, and in 2019 it was neighbouring La Seu d'Urgell. If you want whitewater in the Pyrenees, this is where to come.

The run from Llavorsí. The classic route starts at Llavorsí and finishes in Sort, 14 kilometres of river. Most of it is grade III. In spring, when the snow melts, the water comes up and a few of the rapids turn grade IV. If you are rafting for the first time, ask the instructor in spring whether the section suits you. There is no need to bring gear: the centres and schools are right in Sort and kit you out on the spot.

The 2027 World Championships. In 2027 Sort hosts the world championships in freestyle and wildwater. The slalom championships run in neighbouring La Seu d'Urgell on the same dates, and the results there decide who qualifies for the Olympics in Los Angeles. If you are travelling for those dates, book your accommodation early.

The Port del Cantó pass. On the way to Sort the car climbs the Port del Cantó pass, 1,730 metres. The road switchbacks on the way up and on the way down, so anyone who gets carsick is better off in the front seat. Snow lies on the pass in winter, and we run this route on winter tyres.
