Before you leave Andorra
A parliament in a 16th-century house. Casa de la Vall stands in the old town of Andorra la Vella. The General Council sat here from 1702 to 2011, and the Visit Andorra tourism website calls it one of the oldest parliaments in Europe. You can go inside on a guided tour and spend your last morning in Andorra here.
The 12th-century church of Sant Esteve. The church of Sant Esteve stands in the same historic centre, and its story begins in the 12th century. The 1940 restoration was designed by the architect Puig i Cadafalch. Visit Andorra includes the church, together with Casa de la Vall, in its walking route around the historic centre of Andorra la Vella. If you are staying near the old town, set your pick-up for after your walk, and the driver will collect you from your address.
Caldea in Escaldes-Engordany. Caldea describes itself as the largest thermal spa centre in southern Europe. The spa is in Escaldes-Engordany, right next to Andorra la Vella. If you want to spend your last hours in the pools before the journey, give the Caldea address as your pick-up point when you book. The driver will be there at the time you set. If your bags are already with you, you can go from the spa straight to Barcelona without calling at your hotel.
Winter tyres are compulsory in Andorra until 15 May. From 1 November, on every road in the principality a car must have winter tyres, M+S tyres or studded tyres, or carry snow chains. The M+S marking is on the sidewall of the tyre. The driver fits chains on the drive wheels only when the road is covered in snow, and drives no faster than 50 km/h with them. Studded tyres are allowed in Andorra only in the same months, from 1 November to 15 May.
The Cadí tunnel or the detour via Solsona. In 2026 a car pays €14.56 to use the Cadí tunnel on the C-16. You can avoid the tunnel on the C-14 via Organyà, Solsona and Manresa. The coach operator ALSA uses both roads: some of its services go via Solsona, others via Berga and the Cadí tunnel. If the driver comes into Barcelona on the C-16, there is one more toll tunnel on the way, Vallvidrera.
One of Andorra's co-princes lives in La Seu d'Urgell. Andorra covers 468 km² between Spain and France. The principality has two co-princes: the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell. The bishop's residence is in La Seu d'Urgell, and the town lies on your way to Barcelona, about 10 km from the border.
