How to Get from Girona Airport to Lloret de Mar: Bus, Taxi or Transfer

5 min readLet's GO Transfer

One road runs from Girona Airport to Lloret, and three kinds of transport use it. The right one depends less on budget than on how many of you there are, when you land and where the hotel is.

Bus 613: cheap if there are two of you and the hotel is by the sea

Sagalés runs a direct line from the airport to Lloret. The trip takes thirty-five minutes, tickets start at €12 per person, and buses run daily. The timetable follows Ryanair flights, so when one lands there's usually a bus at the exit.

Two things to know first. The bus stops at the station on Avinguda Vila de Blanes, five minutes from the seafront. If your hotel is on Passeig Jacint Verdaguer or near Fenals beach, you walk the rest. If it sits higher up the slope, around Roca Grossa or behind the park, you face a climb with suitcases and end up taking a taxi in Lloret itself. And second: if you flew with anyone but Ryanair, or your flight ran late, the next bus may be an hour or more away. At night there's no bus.

Taxi from the rank: fast, but on the meter

There's a rank outside the terminal, and cars are usually on it. The drive takes the same thirty-five minutes, but you pay what the meter shows. After the evening charters, the queue there runs longer than passport control. What you pay depends on traffic into Lloret and on whether the driver finds your hotel first time.

Transfer: from the terminal to the front door, price known in advance

You book a transfer from Girona Airport to Lloret de Mar before you fly, and you see the price right away - for the whole car. Your driver tracks the flight and turns up when you actually land. Hotel on the slope or on the seafront, it makes no difference - you get dropped at the door.

It beats the bus if there are three or four of you, or if you land at night. Same if the bags are heavy or the hotel sits away from the sea. For four, one car costs about what four bus tickets do, and nobody hauls a suitcase uphill. Terms, journey time and price are on the route page.

Where to stay in Lloret

The town stretches along the sea and up the hillside, so whether you need a door-to-door ride depends on where you stay.

Seafront and centre. Passeig Jacint Verdaguer, the streets behind it and the quarter by the church of Sant Romà. Everything on foot: beach, restaurants, bus station. In summer the noise runs till morning.

Fenals. The second beach, round the headland, quieter than the centre, hotels right at the water. Fifteen minutes on foot from the bus station, more with luggage.

Upper town. Roca Grossa, the streets above the park, the villas to the north. Quiet, with views over the coves, but every trip to the sea means going down and back up. With luggage, come by car.

Camí de Ronda. A cliff path from cove to cove along the coast. If you like walking, book closer to Sa Caleta or Canyelles, where it starts at the beach.

When to go

July and August: a packed town, bars till dawn, water at twenty-five degrees. September: far fewer people, the water still around twenty-three, cheaper hotels. October: too cool for swimming, but the Santa Clotilde gardens and the coast path come without the crush. From November to March much of the town shuts.

If Lloret isn't for you

Tossa de Mar, twenty minutes east: a fortress over the bay, an old town inside the walls, no nightclubs. From Girona Airport that's 35 km and ~40 min, but there's no direct bus from the airport.

Barcelona, for anyone who lands in Girona but stays in the city. The Sagalés bus runs to Estació del Nord, then it's the metro with your suitcases. A transfer to Barcelona drops you at the hotel, ~1 hr 12 min.

If you fly into Barcelona rather than Girona, the trip to Lloret takes a lot longer: 89 km and ~1 hr 16 min.

Frequently asked questions

Does bus 613 run at night? No. The timetable follows daytime and evening Ryanair flights. After midnight you're left with a taxi from the rank or a transfer booked in advance.

Can I take the bus to a hotel in the upper part of Lloret? Bus 613 stops at the station near the seafront. City buses L04 and L012 climb to Roca Grossa and Lloret de Dalt, but with suitcases a door-to-door taxi or transfer is easier.

Which works out better for two: bus or transfer? For two with backpacks and a hotel by the sea, the bus is cheaper. With two suitcases and a hotel up the slope you add a taxi from the bus station, and the gap narrows.

And for four? Four bus tickets versus one car: the totals come out close, and the transfer drops you at the door. The price is on the route page.

Can I stop off in Tossa on the way from Girona Airport to Lloret? Tossa lies beyond Lloret, so it's not on the way. To see both towns, book a car by the hour: the driver waits while you explore.

Is there a train from Girona Airport to Lloret? No. The nearest station is in Blanes, and from there you still need a bus to Lloret. No direct transport runs from the airport to Blanes either.

Is it worth flying into Girona if my hotel is in Lloret? Yes, it's the closest airport: half an hour versus an hour and a half from Barcelona. One drawback: fewer flights, mostly low-cost. If nothing suits, you can still travel from Barcelona, only it takes longer.
