Barcelona Airport to Calella by car
Calella is the main resort town of the Maresme: a beach about three kilometres long, a lighthouse on the rocky headland and a pedestrian shopping street through the old centre. From Barcelona airport it is 70 km, and the drive takes ~56 min.
Seafront or uphill. Some hotels face the beach, others stand higher up the slope. Give the hotel name or street when you book, and the driver stops at your entrance, not at the nearest bus stop.
Which car. Two or three people with ordinary luggage fit in Econom, Eco or Business; Eco, Business, Van and Premium come with a bottle of water. Premium is a class above Business, also for up to three. A group of up to seven takes the Van, and up to sixteen, the Bus.

What Calella is like
Lighthouse and a long beach. The lighthouse stands on a rock above the sea, and the sand runs the whole length of the town.
The shopping street. A long pedestrian street crosses the old centre, lined with shops, cafés and bars. In the old town, look out for the bell tower with its clock.
Livelier than its neighbours. Calella has the most going on in the evening: bars, terraces, discos. Santa Susanna and Malgrat de Mar, further north, are quieter.
Barcelona for a day. Calella has a station on the R1 line, which follows the shore. Trains to Barcelona run roughly every half hour and take just over an hour, so a day in the city needs no car.
Cheaper than the Costa Brava. Hotels are simpler and prices lower than further north, while the sea is the same and Barcelona is closer.
The road. The car goes round Barcelona and follows the C-32 north along the coast. In rush hour around the city the drive can take longer; your price stays the same.
