Seventeen beaches on three kilometres of shore. The central Sant Sebastià and Ribera run along the promenade, where the cafés are and you can hire a sunbed. The beaches beyond the old town are uncrowded even in July. The water is shallow at the edge everywhere.
The centre is small, and that is convenient. From the beach to the church of Sant Bartomeu is five minutes on foot, to the Cau Ferrat and Maricel museums a little more. You can walk round the whole old town in half an hour.
Twice a year the town changes. In February there is the Sitges Carnival, one of the biggest in Spain: a week of parades and costumed processions. In October comes Sitges, the international fantastic film festival, running since 1968 and among the top three in the world. In those weeks the town is packed: rooms and cars go months ahead. Better to book the transfer together with the hotel.
About twenty-five minutes to the vineyards. In the Penedès they make cava, Spanish sparkling wine, and many estates receive visitors for tastings. Even closer is Vilanova i la Geltrú: a fishing port, calm beaches and almost no tourists.
