The bridge over the river Fluvià is the main reason to come. Seven arches of different heights, a gate tower in the middle, its shape dictated not by symmetry but by the riverbed. Built in the eleventh century, restored after the civil war.
The town has kept a twelfth-century mikveh - a Jewish ritual bath, with a stone staircase leading down to the water. Almost none survive in Europe: only a handful are known.
Beyond begins La Garrotxa - a volcanic zone with forty extinct cones and the beech forest of Fageda d'en Jordà, which grew straight out of the solidified lava.
