Barcelona to Andorra Transfer: the Comfortable Way to Get There
Andorra is a popular trip out of Barcelona. In winter people head for the ski resorts of Grandvalira, Pal-Arinsal and Ordino-Arcalís; in summer, for the shopping and the mountain air. The distance is 200 km, and the drive takes ~2 hr 40 min.
Important: Andorra isn't in the EU
Andorra belongs to neither the EU nor the Schengen area, so there's sometimes a passport check at the border. Bring your passport and the documents that let you return to the Schengen area: a visa or a residence permit, if your nationality requires them.
Ways to get there
The scheduled coach
Direct coaches leave Sants station and El Prat airport several times a day. The journey takes 3.5-4 hours with stops.
The drawbacks: a rigid timetable, pickup only at the major stops, tickets that sell out well in advance in the winter high season. Ski gear is a worry of its own.
A hire car
You're free to plan your own route, but there are catches. On the mountain stretches in winter you may need chains. Parking in Andorra la Vella is paid, and dropping the car off in another country often costs a lot.
A private transfer

- Allow spare time in winter: in snowfall the mountain part of the road can take longer.
- Check the duty-free allowances for your return to Spain: purchases get spot-checked at the border.
- Book your transfer in advance in the high season, from December to March: demand for Vans at the weekend is high.
