The village has kept its white houses. New building is not allowed in the old part, so it looks as it did half a century ago: whitewashed walls, narrow lanes of black slate, not a single high-rise along the bay.
Dalí's house in Portlligat. The artist lived in it for forty years: from a fisherman's hut the house grew into a studio with a garden and a pool. Now it is a museum, fifteen minutes on foot from the centre of Cadaqués. Tickets must be booked in advance at any time of year: visitors go in by timed slot in small groups.
Cap de Creus is right behind the village. The easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula: wind-carved rocks and walking trails above the water. The road ends at the lighthouse, where there is a restaurant with a sea view - a good lunch after the walk.
In summer there is nowhere to park. By the town hall's count, in season every parking space in town is taken by eleven in the morning, and there is nowhere to build more: the village has no free land left. With a transfer the question never comes up: the driver drops you at the house and leaves.
