What awaits you in Salou
The Costa Daurada starts here. Salou is 102 km from Barcelona airport and 13 km from Reus airport. Llevant beach: almost a kilometre of fine sand with a promenade, and a gentle slope into the water - which matters if you have small children.
PortAventura seven minutes from Salou. The complex includes the main park, Ferrari Land and a water park. Many people stay in Salou and go to the park for the day: the choice of hotels is wider than on the park site.
The season matters. Salou in summer is a noisy resort, in winter a quiet seaside town. In July and August it is crowded and properly hot. In May, June and September the water is already warm and there are free tables on the terraces. In winter some hotels close, but the promenade and the restaurants in the harbour work.
The neighbouring towns are closer than they seem. Cambrils is ten kilometres away, with a fishing port and good food. Tarragona is a little further, with a Roman amphitheatre right by the sea and a UNESCO listing. Both are about fifteen minutes' drive.
About the road. From Barcelona airport the journey takes ~1 hr 18 min on the AP-7, no changes and a fixed price. If your flight lands at Reus, the drive takes about twenty minutes.
How to get from Barcelona airport to Salou
There is no direct train and no direct scheduled bus from the terminals to Salou. Any public transport route means at least one change, usually in Barcelona itself.
By train. From the airport station the R2 Nord line to Barcelona Sants, from there a regional train south to Salou or Tarragona. The R2 platform is under terminal T2: if you land at T1 you first need the free shuttle, another fifteen to twenty minutes. About two and a half hours door to door with suitcases, and the last convenient train leaves early in the evening.
By bus. Seasonal buses run from the airport to the Costa Daurada, but not all year round: the timetable is built around the charters.
By taxi. The meter runs the whole way, so you only learn the final amount at the end. Over a hundred kilometres the difference adds up.
By private transfer. One car, one price fixed before the trip, and a driver who is already tracking your flight. The only option where you know the final amount before you set off and travel with no changes.
What happens when you land

Terminals 1 and 2 are four kilometres apart. Give us the flight number and we work out the terminal ourselves. If the plane is parked at a remote stand and you are brought in by bus, the driver waits at the same point.

Then it is one road. The AP-7 south past Sitges and Tarragona, no changes and no suitcases up station stairs. Usually you are already at the hotel when the train is only pulling into Sants.
