What awaits you in Salou
The Costa Daurada starts here. Salou is 102 km from Barcelona airport and 13 km from Reus airport. Llevant beach is over a kilometre of fine sand with a promenade, and the slope into the water is gentle, which matters if you have small children with you.
PortAventura is seven minutes from Salou. The complex includes the main park, Ferrari Land and a water park. Many people stay in Salou and go to the park for the day: there is a wider choice of hotels than on the park grounds.
The season matters. In summer Salou is a noisy resort, in winter a quiet seaside town. In July and August it is crowded and really hot. In June and September the water is already warm and there are free tables on the terraces. In winter some hotels close, but the promenade and the restaurants in the harbour stay open.
The neighbouring towns are closer than they seem. Cambrils is ten kilometres away, with a fishing port and good food. Tarragona is a little further: a Roman amphitheatre has survived there right by the sea, and the town is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Both are about fifteen minutes' drive away.
About the road. From Barcelona airport the journey takes about 1 hour 9 minutes on the AP‑7, with no changes and a fixed price. If your flight lands at Reus, the drive takes about twenty minutes.

Is there a bus from Barcelona airport to Salou?
Direct services to the Costa Daurada are run by Bus Plana, the official carrier for both airports, but the timetable depends on the season and some routes are dropped from time to time. If you are arriving late in the evening or outside the summer, check in advance that there is a service.
