Booked a transfer from El Prat Airport to our hotel in the Gothic Quarter and it was flawless. What awaits you in the centre
The centre is five different districts. The Eixample with Gaudí's houses and wide avenues, the Gothic Quarter with its narrow streets, the Raval with the Boqueria market close by, El Born with the Picasso Museum and Barceloneta right by the sea. Any of them is about 24 minutes from the airport.
Distances in the centre are deceptive. Casa Batlló and Casa Milà are five minutes apart on Passeig de Gràcia, but the Sagrada Família, which looks close on the map, is a 20 to 25-minute walk from them. Park Güell is further out, up on a hill, so it is better to get there by car.
Lunch is late here. Restaurant kitchens are open from 13:30 to 16:00 and again from 20:30. In between, it is mostly places on the main tourist streets that stay open.
The sea within the city. Barceloneta beach is twenty minutes' walk from the Gothic Quarter. The water warms up by June, and people swim until October.
Tibidabo, the viewpoint above the city. A mountain 35 minutes from the centre, with a view over all of Barcelona and the sea. At the top are an old amusement park and a church.
About the road. From the airport it is 14 km, ~24 min on the C-31. At rush hour add 15-20 minutes. The price is fixed when you book and does not depend on traffic.
