Transfer Barcelona - Montserrat

To the monastery with no changes

Montserrat is 59 km from Barcelona: a Benedictine monastery at 720 metres among serrated rocks. The drive takes ~1 hr 3 min.

The usual way up is the R5 train from Plaça d'Espanya, then the rack railway or the cable car. Three legs, each with its own timetable, and the last trains down leave early. A direct transfer takes you from your address right to the monastery. The driver collects you at your door and drives straight to the address.

Comfort - up to three people with standard luggage. Van - the choice for families and groups: seven seats, and the boot takes a pushchair, skis or a snowboard alongside the suitcases. Premium - business trips and meeting guests: a higher-class car, up to three passengers.

Why choose a transfer

01 · No changes

One car replaces the train, the rack railway and the funicular.

02 · Right up to the monastery

04 · Plus wineries

The Penedès is on the way - add a stop to the route.

05 · Price known in advance

Fixed when you book, the mountain road does not change it.

06 · Cancel up to 24 hours

A planned trip can be cancelled free of charge.

What awaits you at Montserrat

A mountain of rounded stone fingers. The massif is visible from afar and looks like nothing around it: over millions of years the conglomerate has worn into rounded towers. Hence the name - "sawn mountain".

A monastery at 720 metres. The Benedictine abbey was founded in the eleventh century and is still active. Its main treasure is the Black Madonna, a twelfth-century wooden statue. There is a queue to see her, and by tradition you touch the statue's hand.

The boys' choir sings at one o'clock. The Escolania is one of the oldest choir schools in Europe, over seven hundred years old. The performance is short, about fifteen minutes, at 13:00 on weekdays and 12:00 on Sundays. No choir on Saturdays or during school holidays.

Walking trails to the peaks. From the monastery routes lead to the hermitages of Sant Joan and Sant Jeroni, up to the highest point at 1236 metres. There are funiculars if you do not feel like walking.

It is colder up top. Five to eight degrees below the coast, with snow in winter. You need a jacket even on a summer evening.

About the road. From Barcelona 59 km, ~1 hr 3 min. The last stretch is mountain hairpins.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Barcelona to Montserrat?

About 1 hour and 59 km. The last kilometres are hairpins, a little longer in winter fog.

Can the car get up to the monastery?

Yes, the road goes up to the square by the basilica. We drop you where traffic rules allow.

Why is this better than the train?

The R5 train takes ~1 hr 3 min, plus the rack railway or the funicular up - three legs with different timetables. The transfer takes you from your door to the top.

Will the driver wait while we visit the monastery?

Yes, with hourly hire. A standard transfer is a one-way trip.

Can I add the Penedès wineries?

Yes, they are on the way. For a route with stops a car for several hours works out better.

Is the price per car or per person?

Per car. Van takes up to 7 passengers, and the fare does not depend on how many of you there are.

How long does the driver wait for free?

15 minutes from the pick-up time, after that waiting is charged. If you are running late, message support: any waiting beyond that is paid.

When is the money taken?

No prepayment. The amount is held on your card when you book and charged only after the trip is completed. Until then the money stays with you.

Can I cancel the trip?

A planned transfer can be cancelled free of charge no later than 24 hours before pick-up. After that, cancellation is charged.
