The Jaume I promenade runs the length of the beach. Palms, playgrounds, and opposite the Jaume I monument there are courts for beach volleyball, basketball and pétanque. The slope into the sea is gentle - that is why people come here with toddlers.

Villas from the early last century survive on the seafront. They were built by Bonet i Garí, who worked with Gaudí - Salou was then a summer retreat for families from Tarragona. Several houses still stand between the hotels. A little further on is the Old Tower, put up in the sixteenth century against pirate raids.
Loud in summer, not in spring and autumn. In July and August it is crowded and properly hot, while in May, June and September the water is already warm and there are free tables on the terraces. In winter some hotels close. But the promenade and the restaurants in the harbour work all year round.
The neighbours are twenty minutes away. Cambrils has a fishing port and restaurants people drive to from Salou for dinner, and in Tarragona a Roman amphitheatre stands right above the beach. From Reus airport to Cambrils is 19 km, to Tarragona 10 km.
