What awaits you in Salou

The Jaume I promenade runs the whole length of the beach. There are palm trees, and in summer Llevant beach has a sports area (beach volleyball, basketball, football) and a children's beach club with entertainers. The beach slopes gently into the sea, which is exactly why people come here with toddlers.

PortAventura four kilometres from the centre. The main park, Ferrari Land and the water park. Many people stay at a hotel in Salou and go to the park every day. From Reus airport to the entrance is 14 km and ~19 min.

Nine equipped beaches and coves, three of them in town. Llevant is the main one: wide, with a promenade and every facility, but crowded in summer. Ponent is almost as long and runs along Bulevard Miramar by the harbour. For pines, head towards the cape, to the Capellans and Llarga beaches. And Cala Crancs is three kilometres from the centre, on Cap de Salou: small, surrounded by greenery, away from the hotels and good for snorkelling.

Villas from the beginning of the last century survive on the seafront. The best known, Xalet Bonet, was designed by Domènec Sugrañes, a pupil of Gaudí: back then Salou was a summer retreat for well-off families from Reus. Several of these houses still stand between the hotels. A little further on is the Old Tower, built in the sixteenth century as a defence against pirate raids.

Loud in summer, not in spring and autumn. In July and August it is crowded and properly hot, while in June and September the water is already warm and there are free tables on the terraces. The season is short: in winter Reus airport has almost no flights. But the promenade and the restaurants are open all year round.

The neighbours are twenty minutes away. Cambrils has a fishing port and restaurants that people drive to from Salou for dinner, and in Tarragona a Roman amphitheatre stands right above the beach. From Reus airport to Cambrils is 19 km, to Tarragona 10 km.
