What awaits you in Blanes
The Sa Palomera rock. The rock juts out into the sea in the middle of the town beach and splits the bay in two. A simple flight of steps leads to the top. From there you can see the harbour and the whole shore as far as the mouth of the Tordera.
A garden above the sea. The Marimurtra botanical garden is laid out on the cliffs above the sea. It was created by Karl Faust, a German businessman who lived in Catalonia, and most of the plants here are exotic. A long staircase leads down to the Linnaeus pavilion, with a view of the rocks and the open sea. The town has a second garden too, the tropical Pinya de Rosa.
Coves and beaches. Along four kilometres of coastline you will find both rocks with quiet coves and wide stretches of sand. The coves of Sant Francesc and Santa Anna are tucked between the rocks, while S'Abanell beach runs south of Sa Palomera. In 2026 Sant Francesc, S'Abanell and the town beach of Blanes were awarded a Blue Flag.
Sant Joan castle. Sant Joan castle, known since the Middle Ages, stands on the hill above the town. The old centre still has a Gothic fountain from the late 14th century.
Fireworks in July. At the end of July, during the town festival, fireworks from an international competition are set off from the Sa Palomera rock. You can watch them from the seafront, and it is best to book accommodation for those days well in advance.
The road from the airport. From Girona airport the car heads south on toll-free roads: the toll sections of the AP-7 were scrapped in 2021. By train you would need a bus and a change, while the driver takes you straight to your hotel.
