Reus or Barcelona: Which Airport to Choose for the Costa Daurada
If you're heading to Salou, Cambrils, La Pineda or PortAventura, you have two airports to choose from: Barcelona and Reus. The difference shows on arrival day. From Reus you reach the resort in twenty minutes; from Barcelona it's more than an hour on the motorway, and all of that right after a flight.
There's no universal answer: it depends on when you fly and where from.
Distance and driving time from both airports
From Reus Airport:

- Salou: 13 km, ~21 min
- Cambrils: 19 km, ~23 min
From Barcelona Airport:
- Salou: 102 km, ~1 hr 9 min on the C-32 and the AP-7
- PortAventura: 101 km, ~1 hr 16 min
Reus sits on the very edge of the Costa Daurada, and that's its main advantage. You get in the car, and twenty minutes later you're at the resort.
Barcelona lies an hour further out, but stays open all year and takes flights from far more cities.
It comes down to the season
Reus is a seasonal airport. Flights there run mainly from April to October: charters and low-cost carriers that bring people to the coast. In winter the timetable thins out badly.
Barcelona Airport works all year round, with long-haul arrivals and every major airline.
The rule is simple:
- if you fly between April and October from a European city, check Reus first, and you'll save an hour on arrival day
- if you fly in winter or on a long-haul route, you will most likely land in Barcelona and spend more than an hour on the road
What the transfer looks like from each one
You pick the car the same way for both airports. Two people with hand luggage fit into a Comfort. A family with a pushchair, beach gear and four suitcases needs a Van: seven seats and a separate boot.
Meet & Greet: the driver meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign. The option costs €10. The Reus terminal is small, so you'll find each other easily anyway; in Barcelona T1 you save real time.
At both airports the driver goes by your actual landing time, and the first hour of waiting is free.
If you are combining the coast with a few days near Barcelona, the drive from Reus Airport to Sitges takes ~57 min.
Toll roads
Toll roads are not included in the fare and you pay for them separately.
Worth knowing: the AP-7 has been free since September 2021, as have most Catalan motorways. On a few stretches of the coastal C-32 you still pay. The driver chooses the route and will tell you in advance if there is a toll section on it.
Which airport to book
Reus, if you fly between April and October, head for Salou, Cambrils, La Pineda or PortAventura, and a low-cost or charter flight leaves from your city. You'll be at the resort half an hour after landing.
Barcelona, if you fly out of season, on a long-haul route, with a connection from outside Europe, or want a day or two in Barcelona before the coast. That hour on the road is predictable, and you know the price before you take off.
