Reus or Barcelona airport for the Costa Daurada?

If you are heading to Salou, Cambrils, La Pineda or PortAventura World, you are choosing between Barcelona El Prat and Reus. The choice changes your arrival day more than most people expect: it is the difference between a fifteen-minute drive and an hour on the motorway, at the end of a flight.

Neither is the right answer for everyone. It depends on when you travel and where you are flying from.

Distance and drive time, both airports

From Reus airport:

• PortAventura World: 13.5 kilometres, about 18 minutes
• Salou: 14 kilometres, about 16 minutes
• Cambrils: about 15 kilometres, under 20 minutes

From Barcelona El Prat:

• Salou: 99 kilometres, about 1 hour 7 minutes along the C-32 and AP-7
• PortAventura: similar, a few minutes less

Reus sits at the edge of the coast it serves. That is its whole advantage: you land, and twenty minutes later you are checking in.

Barcelona El Prat is an hour further away, but it flies year round and connects to far more of the world.

The season decides it

This is the part that catches people out.

Reus is a seasonal airport. Its traffic is concentrated roughly between April and October: charter flights and low-cost carriers serving the coast below it. Outside that window the schedule thins out sharply, and in midwinter there are days with very few departures.

Barcelona El Prat runs all year, with long-haul connections and full legacy-carrier networks.

So the honest rule is:

• travelling April to October from a European city, check Reus first, it can save an hour on arrival day
• travelling in winter, or arriving on a long-haul flight, you will most likely land at El Prat and the hour on the road is simply part of the trip

What the transfer looks like from each

The vehicle question is the same at both airports. Two people with cabin bags fit a Comfort. A family with a pushchair, beach gear and four suitcases wants the Van, which seats seven, six in the back and one in front, with a separate luggage compartment.

Meet & Greet puts a driver in the arrivals hall holding a name sign. It costs +10 EUR in Comfort and Van, and is included in Premium. At Reus the terminal is small enough that finding each other is easy either way; at El Prat T1 it saves real time.

Both airports get the same flight tracking: give the flight number at booking, and if the plane is late the pickup moves by itself. Sixty minutes of waiting are included, counted from when you actually land.

If you are combining the coast with a few days near Barcelona, the Reus airport to Sitges run takes about fifty minutes.

About tolls, plainly

Tolls are not included in the fare. They are added when the route uses a toll road.

Worth knowing: the AP-7 has been toll-free since September 2021, along with most of the Catalan motorway network. The coastal C-32 still charges on some sections. Your driver takes the sensible route, and if that route has a toll you see it in the fare, not as a surprise afterwards.

Which airport should you actually book?

Book Reus if: you are travelling between April and October, your destination is Salou, Cambrils, La Pineda or PortAventura, and a low-cost or charter flight exists from your city. You will be at the hotel within half an hour of landing.

Book Barcelona El Prat if: you are travelling outside the summer season, arriving on a long-haul flight, connecting from outside Europe, or you want to spend a day or two in Barcelona before the coast. The hour on the road is predictable, and the price is fixed before you leave.
