How to Reach Casa Sagnier: the Home of the Architect Behind Five Hundred Barcelona Buildings
Enric Sagnier left Barcelona more than five hundred buildings, more than any other architect of the modernista era. The Palace of Justice, the customs house in the port, the temple on the summit of Tibidabo. And one house he built for himself alone: Rambla de Catalunya 104, 1892, his home and his studio under a single roof.
That house is now the Casa Sagnier hotel.
What the place is
Casa Sagnier has fifty-one rooms and a restaurant, El Café de l'Arquitecte, named after the former owner of the house. There's a terrace, a sauna and a gym.
Barcelona puts the name Sagnier alongside Gaudí, Puig i Cadafalch and Domènech i Montaner, the magnificent four who gave the city the look you recognise today. Sagnier worked more strictly than the rest: fewer decorative liberties, more grounding in medieval architecture.
You're in the Eixample here, the district of square blocks with chamfered corners. Casa Batlló and La Pedrera are ten minutes away on foot, and Plaça de Catalunya is the same distance in the other direction.

How long the ride from the airport takes
From the El Prat terminals to the hotel is 14 km, a ride of ~24 min. The route follows the Gran Via straight into the centre, no bypasses, though you'll hit traffic lights all the way down the last kilometres.

If you travel alone and light, public transport isn't a bad option in this part of town.
The Aerobús reaches Plaça de Catalunya in 35 minutes, and from there you walk ten minutes up Rambla de Catalunya. A ticket costs €7.75, and the combined one with the metro is €10.15. Carrier fares as of October 2026. Sources: Aerobús, TMB.
The metro comes cheaper: €5.90 and one change. Take the L9 Sud to Zona Universitària, change to the L3 as far as Diagonal, and from there the hotel is about five minutes away. It takes longer, but you barely walk. Your ticket lives on a T-mobilitat card and is single-person: four of you will need four cards.
People choose a transfer here not because there's no other way to reach the hotel. The reasons lie elsewhere: a late-night arrival, when walking up from Plaça de Catalunya is the last thing you want, a journey with children, bulky luggage, or simply no appetite for ticket machines after a flight. The transfer from the airport to central Barcelona costs from €32 for the whole car, not per person.
Six Sagnier buildings around the city
Hotel staff have put together a route around the architect's main works.
The Palace of Justice, 1904, was Sagnier's first major commission, built together with Domènech i Estapà. Well-known Catalan sculptors decorated the façades: the Vallmitjana brothers, Josep Llimona and Miquel Blay. It's 2.4 km from here.
The New Customs House in the port, 1896-1902. At the top are two huge eagles by Eusebi Arnau, with four winged lions at the corners.
La Caixa on Via Laietana, 1914-1917, is late neo-Gothic. Offices below, rental flats above: the investment had to pay for itself.

The Temple of the Sacred Heart on the summit of Tibidabo was his life's work. Sagnier spent thirty years on it, right up to his death in 1931; his son finished the job in 1961. You can see its silhouette from almost any point in the city, and it stands 8 km from the hotel.

Rambla de Catalunya is a pedestrian avenue with plane trees and café terraces, running from Plaça de Catalunya up towards Diagonal. One block away, parallel to it, is Passeig de Gràcia with Casa Batlló and La Pedrera.
The Sagrada Família is twenty minutes away on foot, or two metro stops. La Boqueria market and the Gothic Quarter are about fifteen minutes down the Rambla.
