Transfers around Madrid

Madrid is the only large Spanish city without a sea, and the logic of the journeys here is different. The capital sits almost at the geographical centre of the country, 650 metres above sea level, and from Barajas airport people travel either into the city itself or further out, to the old towns around it.

In the city you are not heading to a resort but to a station or a particular district: Chamartin is ~15 min away, Atocha station ~26 min, the centre ~30 min.

The other half of the demand is the old towns around the capital. Toledo is ~1 hr 3 min from the airport, Segovia ~1 hr 13 min, Avila ~1 hr 27 min. All three are on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and all three are usually seen in a single day with a return to Madrid in the evening. For a trip like that two separate transfers are less convenient than a car with a driver for the day: the minimum booking is three hours, and the driver waits by the walls of Avila or by the aqueduct in Segovia while you walk around.

Barajas is a large airport with four terminals. T4 stands apart; a free shuttle bus runs between it and T1-T2-T3 every five minutes, and the transfer takes up to twenty minutes. State your terminal number when you book: the driver brings the car to the one you come out of.

The driver contacts you after landing and names the exact meeting point. Waiting at the airport is free for 60 minutes, counted from the actual landing. The price is fixed when you book: per car, not per person, and it does not depend on traffic on the M-40, the time of day or the number of passengers. Child seats are free in every class.
