What awaits you in Dénia
A UNESCO City of Gastronomy and its red prawns. Since 2015 Dénia has been part of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network for gastronomy. The town is especially proud of its red prawns: they are caught between Dénia and Ibiza at a depth of about 600 metres and sold at the fish auction in the harbour. Order them boiled or grilled.
The sand of Les Marines and the rocks of Les Rotes. North of the harbour the sandy beaches of Les Marines, with their dunes, stretch for more than 3 km, and in 2026 they were awarded a Blue Flag. To the south begins Les Rotes: 1.4 km of rocky coves in a marine reserve, where the tourist office suggests bringing a snorkelling mask. A 4.2 km footpath runs along the rocks, and the walk will take you about an hour.
Montgó, 753 metres above the town. The Montgó Natural Park has been protected since 1987. The 6.1 km trail up is hard and takes about three hours, so set off in the morning and take plenty of water. If you would rather not climb, look out over the sea from the viewpoints at Cap de Sant Antoni.
The ferry to Ibiza from Dénia harbour. Ferries run from Dénia harbour to Ibiza, and the crossing takes about 2 hours 15 minutes.
Summer festivals by the sea. In July the harbour hosts Bous a la Mar, a festival recognised as an event of National Tourist Interest, and the organisers build the bullring right by the water. On 16 July the Baix la Mar fishermen's quarter celebrates the feast of the Virgen del Carmen, and from 20 to 24 June the town celebrates the Fogueres.
The castle is closed for now. The castle above the town, with views of Montgó and the harbour, is temporarily closed to visitors. Before your trip, check the tourist office website to see when it reopens.
