Girona Airport to Barcelona: Bus, Train or Transfer
People fly into Girona Airport for the cheap tickets, then stay in Barcelona. The two are 92 km apart, and there are four ways to cover that gap. Here's a look at each one; the price of a car and the journey time are on the route page.
There is a direct bus
Sagalés runs from the airport to Barcelona Nord bus station with no changes, in about seventy-five minutes. The timetable follows Ryanair flights, and Girona has more of those than any other airline, so there's a bus waiting when they land.

From the bus station you still have to travel on
The bus brings you to Barcelona Nord, and that's neither the centre nor a metro station. The nearest metro is Arc de Triomf, about ten minutes on foot with suitcases in tow.
Everything after that depends on where you're staying. From there the Gothic Quarter is two metro stops away, Passeig de Gràcia means a change, and Gràcia or Sants takes half an hour, longer at rush hour.
If your hotel is near the Arc de Triomf, the bus is a sensible choice. If you're in another part of the city, work out how long that last stretch will take you.
When the bus doesn't work
For four people the tickets come to around €90, and the gap between that and a car gets small. And a driver takes you all the way to the door.
With suitcases and a pushchair, changing onto the metro takes a lot out of you. At night the buses run less often, and the last Ryanair flights land around midnight, so you may not catch one at all.
There's a third reason: if your hotel is on the coast or in Andorra, the bus station isn't on your way at all. From Girona to Lloret and Platja d'Aro is a noticeably shorter drive than to Barcelona.
There's no train from the airport
Girona Airport never got a railway station of its own. To catch a train you first have to reach the station in the city itself, which is twenty minutes away by bus or taxi.
From there, though, the high-speed AVE covers the rest: thirty-eight minutes to Sants. Take that route if you were planning to linger in Girona anyway: the old town, with its houses over the Onyar, deserves a couple of hours.
