From Barcelona Airport to the Business Suburbs: Sant Cugat and Nearby Towns
Barcelona's business belt starts on the far side of the Collserola ridge: office parks, technology campuses and quiet residential suburbs. Sant Cugat del Vallès, Sant Just Desvern, Esplugues, Cornellà - people fly in here for work, and the trip out of the airport doesn't work like the run into the centre.
There's no direct transport to Sant Cugat
The airport and Sant Cugat sit on opposite sides of the city, with the Collserola ridge in between. Nobody ever built a direct line through it.

Sant Cugat has a railway of its own: the FGC line out of Plaça de Catalunya, with trains running frequently. From the airport, though, you can only reach it through central Barcelona - first the R2 to Sants, then the metro to Plaça de Catalunya. Only there do you change to FGC. After a night flight with a suitcase in tow, that's three legs instead of one.
When to leave so you don't sit in traffic
Two routes cross Collserola: the Vallvidrera tunnel and the long way round on the ring road. In the morning the flow runs towards Barcelona, in the evening it runs back out. Both routes are busy at those hours.
If you're due at nine, give yourself extra time: the morning drive takes noticeably longer than the same trip at midday. If you're heading back to the airport, the easiest runs are before seven in the morning or after ten at night.
What matters on a business trip
