MWC 2027: How to Get to Fira Gran Via and When the Free Pass Isn't Enough
Mobile World Congress runs from 1 to 4 March 2027 at Fira Gran Via. In 2026 it drew around 105,000 attendees, and on each of the four days tens of thousands head out to the venue. The organisers hand out a free travel pass and ask you to come by public transport. Here's how that works, where the pass is enough, and where you'll want a car of your own.
What the venue gives you for free
Every attendee gets a zone 1 travel pass: metro, buses and FGC commuter trains, including the ride in from the airport. Pick it up at baggage reclaim in T1 and T2 on the two days before the opening and on the first morning. You can also pick it up at the venue itself and at the Plaça d'Espanya station. All you need is your digital pass in the congress app.
On congress days a free electric shuttle runs between Fira Gran Via and Plaça d'Espanya: Monday to Wednesday from 8:00 to 20:00, and on Thursday until 16:00. The stop is at the north entrance, next to 4YFN.
The organisers give fair warning: major roadworks are under way across the city, with delays and diversions, and public transport is quicker. For one person with a backpack, that's exactly right. The L9 Sud metro line runs from the airport to Europa Fira with no changes, and in the morning peak you can rely on it more than on any car.
When the pass isn't enough
The pass is built for zone 1 and for a passenger travelling light. There are four situations where you'll need more than that.
Equipment. A stand, demo cases, boxes of handouts. You can't take that down into the metro, and at rush hour you won't squeeze into a carriage with flight cases. A Van has seven seats and a separate luggage compartment, so the whole team arrives together.
A night landing. The metro shuts at midnight, and at two on Fridays. Some long-haul flights land after midnight, when the metro is closed and the night bus heads into the centre, not to the venue. Your driver works from the actual landing time, and the first hour of waiting at the airport is free.
A hotel out of town. During congress week prices across Barcelona climb, and some attendees stay on the coast instead, most often in Sitges. The R2 train gets you there from Sants in about forty minutes; from T2 you change at El Prat, which takes closer to an hour. But to reach Fira Gran Via from there you'd be changing trains through the centre, while by car on the C-32 it's about forty minutes straight through.
Meetings around town. Meetings, dinners and receptions all happen outside the halls: in the 22@ district, the tech quarter in Poblenou, in the centre, in hotels. Two appointments are often forty minutes apart, and three metro changes eat up every one of those minutes. For a day like that, take an hourly hire: one driver, one car, three hours minimum. With the hours paid for, your driver waits between stops, your things stay in the car, and you can rework the route as the day goes on.
Where cars pull up at Fira Gran Via
Fira Gran Via sits in l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, past the edge of the historic centre, 8.5 kilometres from the airport. With clear roads that's ten minutes; in the morning peak of congress week, noticeably longer.
The venue has two entrances. South, MWC: the taxi rank and the area for private cars on Carrer Salvador Espriu. North, 4YFN: the shuttle stop. Give your driver the hall number as well as the venue name. Fira Gran Via is eight halls across 240,000 square metres, and from the wrong entrance you'll spend ten minutes walking inside.
The taxi rank at the south entrance operates Monday to Wednesday from 9:00 to 20:00, and on Thursday until 17:00. After the closing talks the queue for it is long. A driver you've booked in advance is already waiting on Carrer Salvador Espriu, so you skip the queue entirely.

A representative of our company took part in MWC 2026 and spoke on the 4YFN startup stage, so we're describing the logistics from the inside.
Here's what we took away. The morning arrival window is shorter than the timetable makes it look. Walking between halls at opposite ends takes longer than the ride to the venue. And nobody plans for the queue for a ride home after the closing talk.
Book before the week begins
During congress week the city runs out of hotel rooms and free cars alike. Book ahead and you lock in both the car and the price: the rate you see when you order is the rate you pay, with no congress-week markup.
