Taxis from Barcelona Airport: Why the Same Ride Costs Different Amounts
Two passengers landed on the same flight and rode to the same street in the centre. They paid different amounts, and nobody cheated either of them. The first took a taxi from the rank on a weekday, and the meter ran on the daytime tariff. The second ordered a car through an app on a Friday evening, when more people wanted to leave than there were cars free.
There are three ways to take a car from El Prat airport (BCN): the taxi rank, an app, or booking ahead as a transfer. All three will get you to the door. The difference lies elsewhere: when you learn the price, where you go to find the car, and what happens if there are five of you or you have a child along.

A taxi from the rank: the meter shows you the price
Barcelona's official taxis are black and yellow. The ranks sit opposite the arrivals areas: floor 0 at T1, opposite sectors T2A, T2B and T2C at T2. The queue moves quickly, though it can stretch out during the morning peak and after several flights land in a row.
On weekdays between 8:00 and 20:00 tariff T-1 applies: €2.80 to start and €1.35 per kilometre. At night, on Saturdays and on public holidays it is tariff T-2: the same starting charge and €1.66 per kilometre. On top of that comes €4.60 for a trip from the airport. To Plaça de Catalunya on a clear road that works out at around €28 by day and around €32 at night.
Traffic goes on the bill too: an hour of waiting costs €27.75, and the meter keeps running even when the car is standing still. There is a floor, though. A trip from the airport never costs less than €21, even if your hotel is in El Prat next door. The 2026 fares carry no separate luggage supplement.
Barcelona taxis have a fixed price on one route only: between the airport and the Moll Adossat cruise terminal, €46 with all supplements included.
An app: you see the price in advance, but it moves
In an app you see the price before you confirm the order. Some services will also send you a regular city taxi at a closed price: it is worked out in advance from the route and the traffic, and it too never drops below €21 from the airport.
But that price depends on demand. When there are more passengers at the airport than cars free, the fare rises, and the services say as much in their own help pages. A Friday evening, several arrivals in a row, rain: the same ride costs something different each time. That is exactly why our two passengers from the beginning paid different amounts.
You board in a separate zone, and each service has its own points in T1 and T2. The app shows you where, and the airport's Aena site lists the points by terminal. After a long flight, hunting for the right car park level with your suitcases is not much fun.
If there are five of you or you have a child along
A five- to eight-seat minivan taxi runs on the same meter plus the €4.60 supplement when there are more than four passengers. It is just that a free minivan is not always sitting on the rank. The apps have larger cars too, but the services do not guarantee space for the suitcases.
The seat situation is a surprising one. The law lets a taxi in city traffic carry a child 135 cm and under on the back seat without a seat, so a taxi off the rank usually has none. Cars from the apps do not guarantee one either. If this matters to you, sort it out before you fly.
A transfer: you know the price before you leave home
You book a transfer before you fly, and the price per car is fixed the moment you book. Traffic, a Friday evening, a queue of arrivals: none of it moves the figure. To the centre of Barcelona that is from €58 per car, and the drive takes ~24 min.
You won't have to hunt for a boarding zone either. Your driver follows the flight number, brings the car for the actual arrival time and messages you to say where you will be met. The first 60 minutes of waiting from the moment you land are free.
A child seat is included in the price in every class: tick the option when you book, then message the driver in the chat with your child's age. The difference shows up most on the longer routes. A taxi meter runs the whole way to Sitges or Salou, while the transfer figure is known before you fly: from €82 to Sitges and from €198 to Salou, per car.
The amount is held on your card when you book and charged after the trip. You can cancel a booked transfer at any time with no penalty. Toll roads are not included in the route price. You can book in the Let's GO app or on the route page.
