What awaits you in Sanxenxo
Silgar beach, 800 metres long. Sanxenxo's main town beach, Silgar, runs along the promenade in the centre. The water near the shore is calm, and the swimming area is marked with buoys. In summer Silgar gets crowded, so it is best to claim a spot by the water in the morning.
22 beaches along 36 kilometres of coast. The Sanxenxo coastline faces two rías, Pontevedra and Arousa, and rocky headlands divide it into 22 beaches. Sanxenxo shares the 2,400-metre A Lanzada beach with neighbouring O Grove. The waves there are strong, so people come to A Lanzada for water sports, while calm Silgar is easier with small children.
28 Blue Flags for a single municipality. The flags went to 17 beaches, 6 coastal paths, 2 marinas, 2 sailing clubs and the A Telleira centre. In 2026 Sanxenxo and Vigo were once again the municipalities in Spain with the most Blue Flag beaches. In 2026 Pampaido beach received the flag for the first time.
The path from Silgar to the port of Portonovo. An 8-kilometre coastal path runs from the breakwater of Sanxenxo port to the fishing port of Portonovo. Along the way you walk the Silgar promenade, go through Punta Vicaño park and pass Baltar beach. At the Caneliñas viewpoint stands the sculpture "A Peixeira": Sanxenxo's tribute to its fishwives.
The Juan Carlos I and Portonovo marinas. The Juan Carlos I marina in Sanxenxo has 450 berths for yachts from 8 to 45 metres long, and the Portonovo marina has another 203. People sail here all year round, except on days of heavy storms. In 2005 Sanxenxo hosted the Volvo Ocean Race, and in 2022 the world championship of the 6 Metre class.
Boats to Ons Island. From the ports of Sanxenxo and Portonovo, boat operators take passengers to Ons Island, part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park. Boats run in Holy Week, at weekends in May and in summer. In Holy Week and from 15 May to 15 September you need an online permit from the Xunta de Galicia for the trip, so get the permit first and then buy your boat ticket.
