Private transfer from Santiago Airport to Lugo

To Lugo, the city inside a Roman wall

Lugo is 93 km from Santiago airport. It is the capital of the Galician province of the same name, a city on a hill above the Miño river. The Romans founded it more than two thousand years ago, and the old streets of the centre still fit inside their city wall. The drive takes about 1 hour 31 minutes, and the price, from €127, is shown before you book.

Booked a transfer from El Prat Airport to our hotel in the Gothic Quarter and it was flawless. The driver was waiting for us at arrivals with a name sign, helped with the luggage, and the price was exactly what the app showed, no surprises, no meter running. After a long flight, it was such a relief to just get in the car and go. Booking took me literally two minutes on the app, no calls, no back-and-forth. Highly recommend ☺️

Highly recommended Let's Go Transfer to everyone. The most understandable and user-friendly app which I ever experienced. Comfortable cars, polite, responsible and attentive drivers. I also was pleasantly surprised by the price.

Took a long-distance transfer from Barcelona to Valencia with my family. Three people, lots of luggage, and a fixed price that was actually cheaper than the train tickets for all of us. The driver arrived right on time, the car was spacious and comfortable, and we could just relax instead of dealing with stations and connections. Booking through the app was simple and instant. Great value for money.

What awaits you in Lugo

A Roman wall more than two kilometres long. The wall was built in the 3rd and early 4th centuries, when the city was called Lucus Augusti. It is about 10 metres high, and a walkway runs along the top: a full circuit takes about half an hour. The wall is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It has ten gates, and any of them will take you into the old town. The Porta Miñá, the Porta Falsa and the Porta de San Pedro have survived from Roman times with only minor changes.

In the cathedral the Blessed Sacrament is on display day and night. Work on the Cathedral of Santa María began in the 12th century and went on for more than a hundred years. The main Neoclassical façade came later, in the 18th century, while inside the Romanesque-Gothic naves and a Baroque wooden choir have survived. By papal privilege, the Blessed Sacrament is on display in Lugo Cathedral day and night.

The Camino Primitivo passes through Lugo. The Xunta de Galicia calls the Camino Primitivo the first and oldest pilgrim route to Santiago. On this route Lugo lies between Castroverde and San Romao da Retorta. By tradition, pilgrims left the city towards Santiago through the Porta Miñá. 2027 will be a Compostela Holy Year: one comes round whenever 25 July, the feast of Saint James, falls on a Sunday.

Roman baths in the spa building. The remains of the Roman baths lie by the river, in the building of today's spa, and most of them have still not been excavated. The cold room of the baths was later turned into a Christian chapel. Nearby, a 1st-century Roman bridge crosses the Miño: it was part of the Via XIX road that linked Lugo with Braga and Astorga.

A tapas trail along Rúa da Cruz and Rúa Nova. The old town is easy to explore from bar to bar: Rúa da Cruz, Rúa Nova and the streets around them make up a real tapas trail. In the bars on Praza do Campo, tapas are served with your wine, and the wines include local ones from nearby Ribeira Sacra. Among the dishes, try Galician-style octopus, lacón con grelos, which is pork with turnip greens, and smoked San Simón cheese.

San Froilán from 4 to 12 October. San Froilán is considered Lugo's main festival and has the status of a festival of National Tourist Interest. In June, close to the summer solstice, the city celebrates Arde Lucus: locals and visitors dress up as Romans, and inside the wall the organisers set up a legionaries' camp and a circus. For the dates of both festivals, it is best to book your accommodation and transfer in advance.
