Barcelona Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2: What You Need to Know
Barcelona El-Prat splits its passengers between two main buildings, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. They share the same airport code, but there are about two kilometres of ground between them and in practice the two of them work almost like a pair of separate airports. Know which one your own airline uses, and how the drivers pick up at each of them, and the arrival will not cost you any time at all.
Working Out Which Terminal Is Yours
Terminal 1 is the big modern one, and it takes most of the international traffic, the full-service carriers and the large regional airlines: Vueling, Iberia, Air France, Lufthansa, Emirates. Terminal 2 is the older building, divided into T2A, T2B and T2C, and it is mainly where the low-cost European airlines sit, Ryanair and EasyJet and Wizz Air among them.
Check the ticket and confirm which terminal you are arriving at before you ever land. Land at T1 and send your car round to T2 by mistake and you will be getting on the free shuttle bus that runs between the two of them every 10 to 15 minutes, which adds another 15 or 20 minutes to a journey that never needed them.
Where the Driver Actually Meets You
Meeting a driver at Barcelona Airport is straightforward enough, though the exact spot is not quite the same in the two buildings. At Terminal 1 the driver is inside the main arrivals hall on the ground floor, waiting for you as you come out of baggage reclaim. At Terminal 2 they wait inside the arrivals area for your particular section, T2A, T2B or T2C.
Book the ride in advance and the driver is standing in whichever building your plane actually lands at. Common Questions About T1 and T2
Can you walk between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2? No. Runways and main roads sit between the two of them, so it is either the free green shuttle bus or a car that takes you across.
What happens when an airline switches its terminal at the last minute? Your driver is following your flight number rather than the original booking, so a change made by the airline comes through to the system on its own, and the driver is standing at the right door by the time you walk out.
How far apart are the terminals? Roughly two kilometres by road. The shuttle takes about 10 minutes, plus whatever you spend waiting for it.
