How to get from Barcelona airport (El Prat) to the city centre
Barcelona El Prat airport (BCN) is 13-15 km from the city centre. There are several ways to get into town: here is each option with travel times and approximate prices.
Aerobus
Express buses A1 (from T1) and A2 (from T2) run to Plaça de Catalunya every 5-10 minutes. Travel time: around 35 minutes without traffic. A one-way ticket costs about 7-8 euros.
A good option if you travel light and your hotel is near Plaça de Catalunya. Downsides: buses get crowded at peak times, it can be awkward with suitcases and children, and you still need to reach your hotel from the stop.
Metro (line L9 Sud)
Line L9 Sud connects both terminals with the city, but does not pass through the centre directly: you will need to change to reach Plaça de Catalunya. Travel time: 45-60 minutes. A special airport ticket is required (about 5.50 euros).
Commuter train (Rodalies R2 Nord)
The train leaves only from T2 (from T1 you must take the shuttle first) and reaches Sants and Passeig de Gràcia stations in about 25 minutes. A cheap option, but with changes and stairs it is not comfortable with luggage.
Taxi
Taxi ranks are at the exits of both terminals. The ride to the centre takes 20-30 minutes and usually costs 35-45 euros depending on traffic, time of day and luggage surcharges. You only know the final price at the end of the trip.
Private transfer
A transfer with a driver is the most predictable option:
- Fixed price known before the trip: traffic and route do not change it.
- The driver waits in the arrivals area and helps with luggage.
- Business or premium class vehicles, and a minivan for groups or families with luggage.
- Door-to-door ride: no changes, stairs or stops.

If you are on a budget with little luggage, the Aerobus will do. If comfort, predictability and time matter, choose a private transfer with a fixed price.
